While building a consumer brand, it’s easy to fall into the trap of viewing every holiday as a commercial event and nothing more. But if we do that, then we’ve lost touch with our community of customers and why they celebrate each and every holiday. At Burrow, our mission is to do things differently - to do things the right way. And as it pertains to Memorial Day, we believe it’s important to remember why the entire country takes a day off work. Memorial Day is a day to remember and honor the fallen heroes who died protecting our country. That’s why, for the second year in a row, we’ve partnered with Legacies Alive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen and support the families of our nation’s fallen heroes and bring national awareness to the life and character of all service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Three of us at Burrow (Alex, Kabeer and myself) were lucky enough to attend business school with a number of military veterans. One of those veterans is DJ Faldowski, the Director of Operations at Legacies Alive. After learning about their mission last year, we felt it was important to start the tradition of supporting Legacies Alive every Memorial Day.

Legacies Alive has 3 pillars to further their mission: Challenges, Projects, and Events, which you can learn about here. The one that spoke to us at Burrow was the support network provided for families of fallen heroes. It’s hard to imagine losing a member of the family. It’s even harder to imagine doing that alone. Legacies Alive organizes these amazing Lecacy Events to bring families of fallen heroes together to remember their lost loved ones and foster a community of support between the families. Having spoken with the founders of Legacies Alive, it’s clear that the bonds between these families last a lifetime. I’m not sure we could have found a better organization to support this Memorial Day.

So, for every sofa we sell from May 19th to June 3rd, we’re donating $20 to support Legacies Alive. Help us support those families who have sacrificed so much for this country, and may those sacrifices never be forgotten.
